Privacy notice

Last updated: 4 November 2026

This notice explains what Typein collects when you use the website, your Typein account, Typein for Mac and Typein for Chrome, why, and the choices you have. Contact: support@usetypein.com.

1. Your documents and text stay on your Mac

The text you type in, the simulations Typein generates, your typing profiles, exports and backups are stored on your Mac. Typein does not upload them. Live Typing types into the document you choose with real key presses; it does not read or upload the document.

2. macOS permissions

Live Typing needs Accessibility, to bring the chosen document to the front and type into it, and Input Monitoring, so that a key press or click from you pauses typing straight away. Typein does not record, store or send what you type on your keyboard. You can turn these permissions off in System Settings at any time; Live Typing then stops working.

3. Typein for Chrome

The text you type in, previews and imported typing profiles stay in your browser's extension storage; Typein does not upload them. While typing, the extension uses Chrome's debugging interface on the one tab you chose, to send key presses and to check that the cursor is still in your chosen field; it does not read or send the page's content. It stores your sign-in session and a random device identifier in the browser and sends that identifier with plan checks so device limits work. Uninstalling the extension removes this data from the browser.

4. What we collect

Account: your email address and password (stored by our sign-in provider, Supabase, as a secure hash), and your signed-in sessions, including the time, device type and IP address the sign-in provider records for security.

Plans and codes: the plans and word packs on your account, the redeem codes you redeemed and when.

Device licences: a random identifier Typein creates for each Mac and each Chrome browser where you use the extension, the sign-in session it belongs to, and the licences issued to it, so that device limits and offline use work.

Word-pack use: when Live Typing uses word-pack words, the number of words and a one-way fingerprint (SHA-256 hash) of the text, so a run is counted once. The text itself is never sent.

Task history (optional, off by default): if you turn it on, task titles and times, never document text.

Website: Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits and page loads without cookies. Your interface language is remembered in your browser.

An older sign-in on usetypein.com uses a separate Logto session. Following an Account link does not transfer or end that session.

Support: what you send us by email.

We do not use advertising trackers, sell personal data, or send your text to any text-processing service.

5. Why we use it

To provide your account, check and enforce plans, device limits and offline use, prevent abuse of codes and licences, provide support, and keep the service secure. Our legal bases are performing our contract with you and our legitimate interest in running and protecting Typein.

6. Who processes it

Supabase (accounts and sign-in), Cloudflare (website, account service, licence and download hosting, analytics) and Zoho (support email). Goofish handles payments for codes under its own privacy policy; we do not receive your payment details. Some of these providers process data outside the UK under safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

7. How long we keep it

Account data while your account is open. Purchase, code and licence records for 6 years for accounting and dispute handling. Session and security records for up to 12 months. Task history until you delete it or turn it off. When you close your account we delete or anonymise your data, except records we must keep by law.

8. Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, or object to how we use it, by emailing support@usetypein.com. You can delete task history and sign out of devices from your account page. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or the authority where you live.

9. Children

Typein is not intended for children under 13.

10. Changes

We will post changes here and, if they are significant, tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
